Main Mix Compression

The 925 Compressor MKII is designed as a preferred main mix compressor, built on physical modeling of classic feed-back analog circuitry. Its detection stage mimics an analog envelope detector, allowing for a broad range of compression characteristics suitable for main mix, buss, or individual channels.

The variable knee response lets you apply more compression to high-transient sounds like percussion, samples, or vocals. Logarithmic gain reduction aligns with the ear’s perception, making the compression feel more natural across different program material.

Stereo and Sidechain Control

In Stereo Link mode, compression is applied based on the sum of both channels, ensuring a consistent response. When disabled, each channel processes independently while retaining shared controls, giving flexibility for mid-side or dual-mono setups.

An external sidechain input allows any other mix channel to drive the compressor, and the sidechain path is unfiltered, so you can shape it with external EQ or filters. This facilitates creative pumping or frequency-conscious compression.

Flexible Workflow

The user interface includes fast, detailed output level and gain reduction meters for accurate monitoring. A modest collection of MIA presets provides quick starting points, which you can tweak to achieve balanced results or as a launchpad for your own settings.

For extreme settings on long-sustained sounds, the high-speed detector can follow the waveform rather than the envelope, producing a desirable distortion effect. This behavior is useful for adding grit or aggressive character to sustained elements like pads or bass.

Practical Applications

Use it on the main mix for glue and program-dependent shaping, or on buss groups like drums or vocals for transient control. The variable knee is ideal for taming spikes without losing punch, while the distortion effect adds harmonic excitement when needed.

The external sidechain is perfect for de-essing or ducking, but since no filtering is included, you must apply EQ externally. For stereo material, either link for coherent compression or unlink for independent processing, depending on the mix.
