DDMF Superplugin — Free Download

Audio effects and utilities

Superplugin builds simple-to-complex plugin chains with serial and multiband routing, plugin hosting across formats, internal bridging, and a standalone mode for live synth performance.

DDMF Superplugin

Purpose and Design

Superplugin is a complementary tool to DDMF’s Metaplugin, aimed at users who want to build plugin chains more quickly. While it shares the same underlying routing engine, its interface is streamlined for simplicity. You can populate slots with your favorite VST, VST3, or Audio Unit plugins in a few clicks, and the plugin handles routing automatically.

Beyond the host environment, Superplugin also exists as a standalone application for playing software synthesizers and effects live. This makes it a bridge between studio and stage, letting you design custom patches and synth instruments without a DAW. The plugin is designed both for those who found Metaplugin overwhelming and for those needing a practical chain builder.

Key Capabilities

The signal flow includes four serial plugins before a 4×4 multiband block that is summed and then fed into another four serial plugins. A parallel section can work in either multiband or fullband mode, giving you flexibility for parallel processing. You can easily move or copy plugins between slots, and each loaded plugin has an individual bypass.

Processing uses double precision when the DAW and plugin format support it, though this is not available for Audio Units. The plugin includes full delay compensation and the ability to automate up to 100 parameters by mapping them to any parameter of a loaded plugin. Oversampling is available up to 16x in realtime and 64x during offline rendering, and the added CPU overhead is minimal.

Workflow and Integration

A convenient plugin organizer lets you scan your plugins once, then drag and drop them onto the graph area. A user preset section enables cross-DAW preset management, so you can keep your setups consistent across different hosts. The internal bridge converts between 32-bit and 64-bit plugins, allowing you to load 32-bit plugins in ProTools or LogicPro X without third-party bridging solutions.

On Mac, this bridge works up to Catalina, and there is also a bridge to run non-native Intel plugins on native Silicon hosts. Native Apple Audio Unit plugins are supported directly. Superplugin can act as a VST (2 or 3) to AU wrapper, a VST to AAX wrapper, or an AU to AAX wrapper, which extends its compatibility across many DAWs.

Applications and Limitations

You can create custom synthesizers by loading software synths and playing them with any MIDI control, making it possible to combine existing building blocks into unique instruments. The multiband parallel section is useful for splitting a signal into frequency bands and applying different effects to each, or for creating complex parallel processing chains.

For live performance, the standalone version lets you play synths and effects without a DAW. However, double precision processing is not available for Audio Units, and the 32-bit bridging on Mac is limited to Catalina and earlier. Keep these limits in mind when designing chains that rely on older plugins or high precision.

Key features

  • 4 serial plugins before a 4×4 multiband block, summed and fed into another 4 serial plugins
  • Parallel section with multiband or fullband modes
  • Double precision audio processing when supported (not for Audio Units)
  • Internal 32-to-64-bit bridging with plugin window integration (Mac up to Catalina)
  • Bridge for non-native Intel plugins on native Silicon
  • Standalone version for live synth and effect play without a DAW
  • Up to 16x realtime and 64x offline oversampling

Best for

Superplugin is ideal for producers and sound designers who want to build custom effect chains or instrument patches with minimal routing complexity. Its standalone mode also suits live performers who need to play software synths on stage. It is a simpler alternative to Metaplugin while still offering multiband and parallel processing capabilities.
