A Toontrack EBX expansion for EZbass, capturing a late-’60s Fender Telecaster Bass with fingerstyle and thumb-muted articulations, presets, and Americana-inspired MIDI for genres from folk to rock.

Purpose and Instrument
EBX Americana is a sound expansion for Toontrack’s EZbass, designed as a versatile workhorse for the broad Americana genre. It covers styles from subtle folk and acoustic setups to full-on electric rock, fitting any songwriting tradition under that umbrella, including blues, gospel, and country.
The core is a meticulously sampled late-’60s Fender Telecaster Bass, chosen for its ability to bridge acoustic-like warmth and electric punch. This specific 1968 model was part of the first reissue batch, giving it a distinct character with its slab body and single-coil pickup.
Two Sampled Playing Styles
To capture the genre’s range, the EBX includes two fundamentally different sampled techniques. The Finger option, played near the bridge, delivers an open, round tone with plenty of sustain. In contrast, Thumb Muted uses rubber foam between the strings, struck with the thumb near the neck for a dry, muffled sound with almost no decay.
These two approaches offer opposite sonic characters, letting you switch from an almost acoustic quality to a big, reverberant rock sound. Both include a broad set of articulations, and the range spans from D1 to E4, giving you full creative control within EZbass.
Presets and MIDI Library
The expansion ships with a wealth of presets focused on round, warm, and mid-centric tones. These are tailored for everything from Tom Petty-style rock to the bare-bones approach of Emmylou Harris or Gillian Welch, plus clean DI presets for both playing styles to enable easy external processing.
A custom MIDI library provides a repertoire of basic basslines inspired by classic and modern Americana. These MIDI files can be customized, sliced, and adjusted using EZbass’s onboard features, serving either as a foundation for existing songs or as a creative springboard for new compositions.
Workflow and Applications
In EZbass, EBX Americana integrates seamlessly with the host’s editing, auditioning, and humanization tools. You can drag and drop MIDI patterns, tweak articulations, and blend the finger and muted styles to fit any track, from sparse acoustic ballads to dense rock arrangements.
The two sampled techniques are ideal for contrasting sections, such as a muted verse giving way to a fingerstyle chorus. With presets covering clean DI and processed tones, this EBX suits producers needing a quick, reliable bass sound across multiple genres without extensive tweaking.
