Virtual instruments and libraries

Hoard Fingerstyle is an intimate fingerstyle acoustic guitar library, featuring velocity-switchable legato articulations, sustain-pedal-friendly polyphonic sustains, tempo-synced patterns, and tuned/doubler variations for polished productions.

Core Performance Patches

At the heart of Hoard Fingerstyle are two primary instruments tailored for expressive play. The Master Legato patch integrates three distinct legato styles, each triggered by playing velocity. Soft velocities produce a natural plucked transition, medium velocities engage a slided pluck with mod-wheel-controlled speed, and higher velocities trigger hammer-ons and pull-offs up to a whole step, with an extended slide range available for larger intervals.

The Sustains Hammer Pull patch offers a different approach: a polyphonic sustains instrument that automatically plays legato hammer-ons or pull-offs when you overlap notes a half or whole step apart. A keyswitch temporarily disables legato when needed, and sustain-pedal support lets you play successive notes without polyphony buildup, preserving the legato behavior. A Sustains Only patch is also included for simpler textures.

Rhythmic Loops and Textures

For constructing rhythmic foundations, the library includes tempo-synced loops that capture successive single-note patterns. These loops are recorded at several tempos and alternate between quarter-note and eighth-note performances via keyswitches, making them ideal for building fingerstyle patterns, strumming beds, or percussive backdrops. The default quarter-note pluck pattern provides a steady pulse, while the eighth-note variation adds motion.

Beyond the core instruments, additional patches cover harmonics, knocks, taps, strums, and fret noises, offering a palette of percussive and textural sounds. These are particularly useful for adding realism to arrangements or creating ambient guitar-based soundscapes. The noise patches serve as transitional elements or rhythmic accents, enriching the overall performance without needing additional sampling libraries.

Tuning and Production Flexibility

To facilitate double-tracking in stereo productions, the library includes tuned and doubler variations of the main patches. The tuned versions are hand-adjusted for specific musical scenarios, ensuring intonation across different playing styles. Doubler patches are designed as a complementary guitar for left and right channels, letting you achieve a wide, natural double-tracked sound quickly.

The instrument also features adjustable reverb based on a custom hall impulse, allowing you to place the guitar in various acoustic spaces—from a close, intimate setting to a larger room. This reverb can be tailored to suit the mix, adding depth without requiring external effects. The combination of tuned variations and built-in ambience makes it straightforward to integrate the guitar into both sparse and dense arrangements.

Workflow and Expressive Control

The library is designed for direct, playable workflows. The Master Legato patch lets you switch articulations fluidly during a performance using velocity dynamics, eliminating the need for complex keyswitching in most situations. Mod-wheel control over slide speed adds expressive nuance when performing slided plucks, while hammer-ons and pull-offs feel natural when played legato.

For chordal or polyphonic play, the Sustains Hammer Pull patch excels at improvisation, as overlapping notes trigger legato transitions automatically within the specified interval range. The sustain pedal supports smooth successive notes without sacrificing legato capabilities, and pressing the C1 keyswitch temporarily disables legato for staccato or detached playing. The loops and texture patches can be layered or used as starting points for building full arrangements.
