Orchestral Essentials 1 distills ProjectSAM’s cinematic orchestral palette into one versatile package, featuring full ensembles, legato, effects, and exclusive instruments ideal for film, game, and pop scoring.
Core Purpose
Orchestral Essentials 1 is a curated sample library that gathers essential sounds from ProjectSAM’s acclaimed Symphobia, True Strike, and Orchestral Brass Classic collections. It is designed for composers seeking a streamlined, playable orchestral toolkit without the complexity of larger libraries. The package provides a complete range of orchestral elements, from powerful full-orchestra hits to intimate solo instruments.
The library emphasizes ensemble-based sampling, capturing strings, brass, and woodwinds as sections played together in a concert hall. This approach delivers an authentic, natural blend that is difficult to achieve with individual instruments. It serves both newcomers to the SAM sound and existing owners looking for a focused, portable alternative to their main libraries.
Key Capabilities
The library includes a wide spectrum of articulations for each orchestral section, from sustained notes and staccato to expressive legato ensembles with real note transitions. Beyond standard articulations, there is an inspiring set of clusters, textures, and percussive effects that are essential for cinematic scoring. These are complemented by classical and world percussion, including timpani and Japanese drums, for rhythmic depth.
Exclusive to Orchestral Essentials 1 are a concert grand piano and harpsichord, which were previously unreleased. The library also includes a concert harp and church organ, along with ProjectSAM’s signature Dystopia sound design collection, which provides dark, evolving textures. These instruments are fully reprogrammed to work within a newly designed, intuitive interface, making the library immediately playable.
Workflow and Interface
The Orchestral Essentials interface is redesigned for simplicity, allowing users to quickly access all sounds and Multis without deep menu diving. Every sample has been reprogrammed to fit this interface, ensuring a consistent and efficient user experience. The Multis are all new, combining the piano, harpsichord, and harp with orchestral sections to create evocative, ready-to-play setups.
The library benefits from Native Kontrol Standard support, which enables deep integration with Native Instruments hardware, allowing hands-on control of key parameters. The intuitive layout makes it ideal for sketching ideas rapidly, whether for a full orchestral cue or a hybrid pop production. Its focus on performance and immediacy is a core strength.
Practical Applications
This library is versatile enough for film scoring, game audio, and pop arrangements. Full-orchestra articulations and percussive hits are excellent for action cues or dramatic transitions, while legato ensembles and textures suit emotional, sustained passages. The Dystopia sound design and effects add an avant-garde layer for modern or experimental tracks.
The inclusion of piano and harpsichord expands its use to classically inspired pop ballads or baroque-style interludes. Composers can build entire cue sketches using the Multis, then refine in a larger setup. Its comprehensive yet compact nature also makes it a reliable layering tool alongside other libraries, providing a distinct cinematic color.
