Purpose and Technology
SWAM Viola is a physically modeled virtual viola that simulates the behavior of an acoustic instrument. It generates sound in real-time based on playing parameters, offering a responsive and organic playing experience. It does not rely on pre-recorded samples, providing unlimited expression.
The instrument uses Audio Modeling’s proprietary SWAM-S engine, derived from Digital Waveguides. This approach models the physical properties of the instrument, allowing for consistent, expressive sounds that react dynamically to performance input, from subtle bow changes to bold articulations.
Key Capabilities
The V3 release introduces powerful MIDI mapping, supporting CC, Hi-Res CC, After-Touch, NRPN, and customizable remapping curves for enhanced controller sensitivity and playability. A new Pizzicato model has been added, and general sound and bowed string behavior have been improved.
A Timbral Correction feature allows selection of up to two harmonics to emphasize or reduce, offering tonal shaping. Real-time Bow Sensitivity Control lets you transform the bow character, from short, soft strokes to full-length, strong ones, adding expressive nuance.
Workflow Integration
SWAM Viola can be used as a standalone application, and also supports VST3 and NKS formats for seamless integration into DAWs and Native Instruments hardware. It is designed for real-time performance, enabling direct manipulation of expression and dynamics.
