Vienna MIR Pro 3D is a spatial mixing and reverberation tool using Multi Impulse Response convolution for stereo, surround, and immersive audio. It offers 3D positioning, 3rd Order Ambisonics, and flexible room-based workflows.

Purpose and Core Technology
Vienna MIR Pro 3D is a holistic mixing and reverberation application based on Multi Impulse Response convolution technology. It places any audio signal—not just virtual instruments—into a multi-sampled room using the MIR Icon, combining placement and reverberation into one intuitive workflow.
The software goes beyond simple convolution by combining directional frequency profiles with reflectional information from each instrument. It recreates the acoustic interactions of musicians playing in a real space, making it suitable for detailed spatial audio mixing and sound design.
Key Capabilities
The software supports 3rd Order Ambisonics throughout its signal path, offering improved spatial enveloping and localization. Users can choose output formats from stereo to binaural, Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos, Auro 3D, Sony 360 Reality Audio, and raw Ambisonics. Instruments, virtual microphones, and capsules can be moved in 3D space.
Tabbed venues allow multiple rooms side-by-side, enabling drag-and-drop of instruments between halls or simultaneous use of different setups of the same room. The dry/wet ratio modes (Classical, Scoring, Pop) provide tailored control, while spheres offer an alternative approach to decoding Ambisonics.
Workflow and Control
The MIR Control Icon replaces traditional faders and pan pots with a spatial concept. Users place sound sources directly in a 3D room and access parameters like volume, stereo width, direction, and dry/wet ratio from the icon itself. This allows interaction with the mix more like a conductor than an engineer.
Preset management includes factory presets and user setups that can be switched instantly. The concept of roles applies to individual sound sources, and pre-configured Venue Presets speed up instrument setup. User-generated presets can be shared easily, and existing Vienna MIR Pro projects are compatible with MIR 3D RoomPacks.
Room Sampling and Upmixing
Each room is sampled with acoustic impulses from many positions and directions, capturing its unique sonic image. When a source is placed on stage, the software selects eight impulse responses (six horizontal, two vertical) and applies instrument directivity characteristics before convolution. The engine calculates this in real-time.
Vienna MIR Pro 3D can also be used to create immersive mixes from stereo sources, serving as an upmixing tool. For best results, it is designed to work with MIR 3D RoomPacks, which include scoring stages, concert halls, studios, and churches. Previous MIR projects in Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 require a free update.
