AIR Mini D is a software synthesizer that recreates the classic American synth sound with modern features, offering three oscillators, dual filters, and built-in effects.

Classic Synth Reimagined
AIR Mini D brings the sound of an iconic analog synth into your DAW with up-to-date enhancements. It features 300 presets that span modern and retro styles, covering ten categories like bass, leads, and synth effects. The interface is designed to be visually appealing while providing hands-on control over its core components.
The synth is built around three oscillators per voice, with a maximum of four voices. Each oscillator offers 8 authentically modeled waveform shapes and can be used as a modulation source. Pitch detune on oscillators two and three enables thick, stacked sounds ideal for pads, bass, or leads, with traditional wave pitch ranges from 32′ to 2′.
Filter and Modulation Flexibility
Mini D includes two distinct filter models. The ‘Classic’ ladder filter emulates the original hardware’s feedback behavior, while a ‘modern’ filter offers a more contemporary tone. The filter can be routed to a key start or a second mod source, allowing for sweeping, evolving sounds that add movement to your patches.
This flexibility empowers you to shape tones that range from warm and punchy to bright and aggressive. By combining the filters with the oscillator options, you can craft dynamic timbres that respond to your playing. The modulation capabilities are straightforward, making it easy to introduce sonic variation without complex routing.
Built-in Effects and Workflow
Unlike the original hardware, Mini D comes with three onboard effects that sit at the end of its signal chain. These include an EQ with low, mid, and high bands, a stereo chorus with spread and mix controls, and a delay with tempo sync, high-pass filtering, stereo width, and feedback settings. This setup eliminates the need for external processing.
Having these effects integrated means you can add color and depth directly within the plugin. The EQ shapes the overall tone, the chorus widens the sound, and the delay creates rhythmic space—all useful for making a patch immediately usable in a track. This design streamlines your workflow by offering a complete package in one interface.
Cross-Platform Use and Presets
Mini D can be used in your DAW and also unlocks within AKAI Professional MPC standalone hardware, including the MPC One, MPC Live, and MPC Key series. This allows you to move projects between desktop and hardware seamlessly, using the same sounds in both environments.
The preset library is curated by the AIR Music team in Germany, providing an immediate source of inspiration. With over ten categories, you can quickly find a starting point for basslines, leads, or experimental textures. Each preset can be tweaked to suit your track, making Mini D a practical tool for music production.
