Fog Convolver 2 is a true stereo convolution reverb and processor with dual IR loading, routing modes, modulation, an IR generator, and over 660 included impulse responses.

Dual IR Engine and Routing
Fog Convolver 2 has been rebuilt from the ground up as a true stereo convolution processor. It allows loading two separate impulse responses, or a single true stereo or quad-channel IR, with independent or linked controls for each. Five routing modes—single, serial, parallel, parallel mix, and true stereo—determine how the two impulses are arranged in the signal chain.
This flexibility lets you create anything from classic reverbs to experimental stereo effects. Dragging two audio files onto the interface assigns them to IR1 and IR2 automatically, while a built-in browser handles file loading. True stereo impulses recorded simultaneously capture a more realistic stereo image, but you can also mix unrelated IRs for unique, unconventional results.
Modulation and Effects
Each impulse response can be modulated with two LFOs, offering 10 waveforms and 18 assignable destinations. A dedicated multi-mode filter can be placed pre-IR, on the IR itself, or post-IR, and a 5-band graphic EQ provides additional tonal shaping. These tools allow dynamic movement, filtering sweeps, and precise frequency control beyond simple static convolution.
The LFOs can modulate parameters like mix, filter cutoff, or routing levels, enabling evolving textures that change over time. The filter’s three placement modes give you creative flexibility: shaping the input signal, altering the impulse’s character, or sculpting the final output. This makes the plugin suitable for sound design as much as for conventional reverb applications.
IR Generator and Built-in Library
If you do not have your own impulse responses, the built-in impulse response generator creates artificial spaces from scratch, eliminating the need for external samples. The plugin ships with eight factory banks containing over 660 IRs. These include ‘Craft Spaces’ (reverbs from digital processors and real rooms), ‘Old Times’ (from public domain recordings like 78 RPM records and NASA audio), and ‘OpenAIR’ (churches, halls, and a nuclear reactor).
Other banks offer ‘Organic Compounds’ (based on NMR spectroscopy data), ‘Polarity’ (by Bitwig Guru, using white noise and granulators), ‘Test Equipment’ (glitch and tone IRs), ‘Unusual’ (objects, instruments, and organic sources), and ‘Vintage Mics’ (ribbon microphones from the 30s to 70s). This variety covers realistic spaces, vintage character, and highly experimental textures.
Workflow and Practical Use
Fog Convolver 2 is designed for hands-on experimentation. Drag and drop any WAV or AIFF file to use it as an impulse response, or browse the included library. The routing modes, modulation, and effects are all accessible in one interface, making it easy to A/B different setups. You can process anything from vocals and guitars to full mixes.
Typical workflows include adding realistic room ambience, recreating vintage gear coloration, or crafting weird, evolving sound effects. The IR generator pairs well with the modulation for creating unnatural spaces. While it excels as a reverb, it also functions as a general-purpose convolution processor for sound design tasks, giving you both musical and experimental possibilities.
