Reason Studios Rack 14

Modular Rack in Your DAW

Reason Rack 14 is a plugin that installs directly into your preferred DAW, including Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic, and FL Studio. It recreates the classic hardware-style rack, where devices are stacked and connected. The floating window stays on top and opens only when needed, so it feels native to your workflow.

You can drop it onto any track and immediately access a complete production environment. Drag to reorder devices and the signal flow updates automatically. This approach brings the modular experience to your existing projects without forcing you to change how you work.

Patch Bay and CV Routing

Flipping the Rack reveals the patch bay, a full routing environment with virtual cables on every device. Audio can flow in any direction, split, merge, and create feedback loops. This flexibility goes beyond what standard plugin chains allow, enabling complex signal paths.

CV inputs and outputs let LFOs, envelopes, and step sequencers modulate parameters across devices. You can drive a filter with a step sequencer or trigger envelopes from CV signals. This modular routing supports evolving, expressive sounds that are hard to build with conventional setups.

Device Library and Combinator

The Rack includes 68 devices, from synthesizers like Thor and Europa to samplers such as Mimic and NN-XT, plus drum machines, effects, and utilities. All are hand-crafted in Sweden since 1994, covering synthesis, sampling, and processing. The new RV-9 Reverb Station adds nine algorithms, including granular and spectral freeze.

Combinator lets you combine any devices into a single instrument or effects unit, complete with macro controls and deep modulation routing. You can save these setups and recall them like any plugin, making complex layered synths or performance rigs playable and reusable.

Workflow and Practical Use

Reason Rack supports full DAW automation and preset recall, with project-level compatibility across sessions. It runs stably in large projects, and because it shares the same devices and presets as the Reason DAW, there is no learning curve if you are already familiar with Reason.

The built-in Browser searches over 30,000 tagged patches, samples, and loops by name, type, or category. This lets you find sounds quickly without interrupting your creative flow. Use it for sound design, mixing, or building custom instruments in any compatible host.
