MasterMagic is a master-bus effect plug-in by Rob Papen that tightens low end with a Mono/Stereo split filter and adds high-frequency air, plus flexible MIDI control for live and studio use.

Purpose and Placement
MasterMagic is designed as a final processor for your master FX chain. Its intended position is at the very end of the chain, after all other processing, to apply subtle polish to the overall mix. The plug-in focuses on two core functions: tightening the low end and enhancing high-frequency openness.
The Mono/Stereo section works to make the bass region more focused and solid, while the AIR function boosts very high frequencies with a wide bandwidth. Both are meant to be used with care, as even tiny amounts can noticeably change the perceived texture of a track.
Core Processing Features
The Mono/Stereo Split Filter divides the audio signal into mono and stereo components based on a selected frequency. A Solo switch lets you hear only the transformed mono signal, which is handy for finding the right crossover range. The Mode setting determines how stereo audio is converted to mono.
Available modes include using the Left Channel only, the Right Channel only, the average of both (L+R), or the difference between them (L-R). This flexibility allows you to control the width of the low end and ensure bass information is properly centered or enhanced as desired.
AIR and High-Frequency Enhancement
The AIR function acts as a high-frequency booster with a wide bandwidth, using what is described as a top-notch algorithm. Its effect is not like a typical EQ shelf; rather, it is perceived as giving the audio more breathing space or ‘air’. This can add a sense of openness to the upper frequencies.
Because the AIR effect can be subtle yet powerful, the documentation suggests using it sparingly. Even a tiny amount can have a noticeable impact on the overall mix’s sense of space. This makes it useful for adding polish to vocals, cymbals, or entire mixes without excessive brightness.
MIDI Integration and Control
MasterMagic includes several MIDI features for flexible control. The Program Change switch allows the plug-in to respond to MIDI program change commands for preset selection, which is useful in live performance setups. The MIDI Channel setting limits any MIDI control to a specific channel (1–16 or Omni).
The Capture Mode switch prevents sudden parameter jumps when using an external MIDI controller. When enabled, it ignores incoming MIDI controller messages until the controller’s value matches the current value of the assigned MasterMagic control. This smooths automation transitions and avoids abrupt changes during tweaking.
