EZX Dance is an expansion pack for Toontrack’s EZdrummer featuring 15 mix-ready kits covering modern electronic dance music, from Afro house to trance, with tonal instruments, effects, and matching MIDI grooves.
Purpose and Kit Styles
EZX Dance is a dedicated sound expansion for Toontrack’s drum sampler, engineered by Timofey Reznikov, a producer known for work with David Guetta and Dimitri Vegas. It delivers fifteen mix-ready kits tailored for electronic dance music. The collection spans a wide sonic range, capturing the organic percussion of Afro house, the sun-drenched bounce of tropical house, and the intense energy of trance and UK house.
Each kit is constructed from layered organic and electronic drums, classic percussion, and textured effects. Notable kits include Classic House with TR909-style drums and piano stabs, Bass House with distorted 909 percussion and heavy bass, and Commercial Deep House with a fluffy kick and bright percussion. Tech House is represented by four distinct kits, while French House channels vinyl-era vibes with organ keys and funky bass.
Key Capabilities
Beyond percussive foundations, EZX Dance includes chromatically tuned tonal instruments, making it a melodic beat machine. These instruments, alongside a pool of tailored sound effects, allow for creating complete musical ideas. The mixer section provides controls for individual kit element levels, global delay, reverb, flanger, and saturation, enabling detailed sound shaping within the EZdrummer environment.
A dedicated MIDI library accompanies the kits, offering two unique groove variations for each kit. These grooves integrate rhythmic and melodic elements, providing a solid starting point for productions. This combination of melodic tonal tools, effects, and ready-made patterns makes the expansion useful for both quick sketches and refined track arrangements across various electronic subgenres.
Workflow and Integration
The expansion is designed to work seamlessly within Toontrack’s drum sampler, allowing users to load kits and start playing immediately. The mixer’s filter, glue, space, and flanger knobs offer macro-level sound adjustments, while individual channel levels can be fine-tuned. This setup facilitates blending the electronic and organic elements to fit a track’s context.
The included MIDI patterns are tailored to each kit’s style, reducing the time needed to find suitable rhythms or melodic hooks. By combining drum kits, tonal instruments, effects, and grooves, the workflow supports a direct path from idea generation to final production. It serves as an all-in-one tool for building electronic tracks without needing additional sample libraries or virtual instruments.
Practical Applications
EZX Dance is suitable for producers seeking authentic sounds for specific dance subgenres. For instance, the Afro House kit blends acoustic percussion, electronic kick, marimba, and synth bass, ideal for authentic Afro house productions. The Progressive House kit’s classic drum machine sounds with modern energy can fit various directions, while the UK House kit’s compressed hi-hats and bright effects suit club tracks.
The French House kit with sampled one-shot drums and organ keys captures a jazzy, upbeat emotion, while the trance kit’s heavy mid-frequency kick and supersaw lead ensures a cutting presence. For tracks without a clear direction, the Commercial House kit offers a basic kick, percussion, and universal effects like white noise and vocal chops. This flexibility makes the expansion a practical resource for commercial pop, deep house, and festival-ready productions.
