Volcano 3 is a creative filter plug-in with four analog-modeled filters, new vintage modes, per-filter saturation, flexible routing, and extensive modulation, all in a redesigned interface.

Core Filter Engine
Volcano 3 centers on four simultaneous analog-modeled filters, each offering a range of modes and styles. Beyond the established High-, Low-, and Band-Pass types, it adds vintage-style Bell, High/Low Shelf, Notch, and All-Pass modes. These non-linear filters can be shaped with Style settings for various sonic colorations.
Each filter now includes a variable saturation circuit, an extra 6 dB/octave slope option, and independent volume and pan controls. This design supports a wide palette of tones, from subtle shaping to aggressive character, with the flexibility to route filters in parallel, serial, or hybrid configurations.
Interface and Visualization
The plug-in features a fully redesigned interface focused on intuitive workflow. A new filter display allows selection and adjustment of multiple filters at once, showing a unified response curve with stereo separation and a high-resolution spectrum analyzer. Modulation signals are visualized at both sources and targets with animated collars, and a source flow area displays active modulations.
Floating slot panels enable collective balancing of all sources modulating a selected control. The darker color scheme reduces eye strain, and full-screen mode maximizes the filtering workspace. The interface is resizable, with various size options to suit different screen setups.
Modulation and Workflow
Volcano 3 offers extensive modulation capabilities, including as many 16-step XLFOs, XY controllers, envelope generators, envelope followers, and MIDI sources as needed. The Envelope Generator now features adjustable Attack, Decay, and Release curves, and the Envelope Follower includes a transient detection mode. A new Slider provides a vertical-only variant of the XY Controller.
Real-time visualization of modulation targets and sources enhances clarity, and drag-and-drop modulation is supported with a 50-slot matrix. Other workflow tools include interactive MIDI Learn, undo/redo and A/B switching, Smart Parameter Interpolation for smooth transitions, and an extensive help file with interactive hints.
Practical Applications
Volcano 3 is suited for creative filtering tasks, such as shaping synth pads, adding movement to basslines, or creating sweeping effects. Its parallel routing and per-filter pan controls allow for spatial depth, while the new filter modes enable tonal sculpting beyond traditional pass filters. The saturation circuit adds warmth or drive to individual bands.
The High Quality (4x oversampling) mode is available for demanding processing. A curated factory preset library showcases the new features, and support for earlier Volcano presets ensures continuity. The plug-in also includes sample-accurate automation and SSE optimization for performance.
